Our Observatory is housed under a 4-meter dome is located in S/E-434. The observations are done with a Celestron CG-11, Scmidt-Cassegrain optical system. We have the following accessories:

  • Losmandy Gemini computer for deep-space objects
  • An Aluminized glass solar filter to view sunspots and actual color of the surface of the sun (photoshpere)
  • Hydrogen-alpha filter to enable us to see "real-time" prominences in the middle layer of the solar atmosphere (chromosphere)
  • SBIG MOD.STV CCD digital camera. Web-sites used in conjunction with the observations include SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) and SEDS (Students for the Exploration and Development of Space)

We welcome students, faculty and members of the general public. On cloudy days we plan mini-lectures, computer simulations, video presentations, etc.

For more details please contact Mr Eric Vandernoot at (561) 297-3378 or email vandernoot@physics.fau.edu during normal working hours.
