Orbital Angular Momentum Quantum Key Distribution Team (DES)
The orbital Angular Momentum Key Distribution Team distinguished themselves by exceptional service as Physicist and Engineer, respectively, Engineering Branch, Optics Division, Directed Energy Directorate, Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, from 1 January to 31 December 2006.  During this period, the team developed the theory and protocol for the use of orbital angular momentum quantum states for quantum key distribution, significantly advancing the state of the art of cryptography.  They built and demonstrated practical devices for transmission of quantum entangled photons, and began the development of devices to receive and sort those photons.  In addition, the team developed the simulation and analysis tools needed to demonstrate the effectiveness of adaptive optics for extending range capability of such quantum communication devises.  The distinctive accomplishments of the Orbital Angular Momentum Quantum Key Distribution Team reflect credit upon themselves and the United States Air Force.
